PARISH AND TOWN PLANS & VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENTS
Would your Village Benefit from a Village Design Statement?
If you can answer “yes” to any of the following questions, then a Village Design Statement may be a positive way for your village to demonstrate how local character can count in the design of new development:
- Are there changes in the landscape and patterns of land use around your village?
- Are there continuing pressures for development? (This includes small-scale extensions and alterations.)
- Have there been changes in local facilities and job opportunities?
- Are there changes in the pattern of the village?
- Is the character of the village core different to the rest of the village?
- Is there a need for a particular kind of development in the village?
Village Design Statements provide an opportunity for local people to debate how to help new development fit into existing.
Help is at Hand
The production of a VDS can be a daunting prospect and some communities do not feel that they have the necessary expertise to carry out the task. Our Planning Policy staff are able to assist in the preparation of your VDS:
- by offering advice on the process;
- by commenting on the draft VDS;
- by assisting in the adoption of VDSs as Supplementary Planning Documents.
