Games Club for 5 – 12 year oldsA new games club is at Cowes Library every other Saturday morning 10.30 - 12. Following dates are 9th and 23rd February, 9th and 23rd March. There are a variety of different things from giant jenga, knock-down dominoes, twister to different board games for older children such as chess. It’s really fun! If you have any games you no longer want, then donate them to the Library. Children can bring their own games to share too.
Huxley’s Magic HubIs on the first Saturday of every month 10.30 – 12.30. Where anyone interested in magic, aged 7 – 107, can meet to learn tricks, perform, trick-swap, develop routines and win prizes!
Each month Huxley will supply all the training and materials for you to build your own props and develop them into a trick/routine. Why not come along and get involved with your child. Huxley’s Magic Hub is a fantastic team building experience that improves hand eye co-ordination, public speaking and performance skills whilst vastly builds confidence. Only £2 per person per session.

Cowes Library Celebrates National Libraries Day!Get Online at Cowes Library! On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th February staff at Cowes Library will be showing customers how they can access libraries services online e.g. renewing their own books, making reservations, making free audio downloads and having access to online language and educational courses and browsing up to 50 online magazines.
On Saturday 9th you can also hire 1 DVD and get 1 free or hire 1 book on tape or CD and get 1 free.
There will be cakes and refreshments provided by The Supporters of Cowes Library, and games in our children’s library.
Meet the authors eveningRichard de Kerbrech and David Williams who will be talking and signing copies of their new book ‘J. Samuel White & Co Shipbuilders’ at Cowes Library Wednesday 13th February at 7pm. A display of material will shown by the Isle of Wight Heritage Service. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of The Supporters of Cowes Library.
Meet the Cowes Heritage GroupCowes Heritage members will be at Cowes Library on Saturday 16th February to sign and promote their new book ‘The History of Shops in Cowes’. Come along and find out about what the group does and see if you might be interested in getting involved.
Promotions at Cowes Library
Cowes Heritage Group currently have an exhibition of information and photographs about the Queen’s Coronation and the celebrations in Cowes and the local area that took place at the time.
There is also a display of RMS Titanic memorabilia from its launch to the great liner’s sinking and the tragic loss of lives.
Both displays can be seen during normal opening hours throughout January.
Courses at Cowes LibrarySilver Surfer SessionsFree beginners’ Internet and email Silver Surfer sessions. If you are over 50 and want to learn how to use the Internet and use email, register for a free 2 hour session. One to one hourly computer sessions CB Training regularly provides computer sessions in the library or in your home, which include using the Internet and email, or any other aspect of using computers.
