Goodleaf Tree Climbing

Cost: £35.00 for adults 17 and over
£70.00 for individual climbing instruction, any age
Our prices are for a 2.5 hour experience. This includes hire of all equipment, public liability insurance (to £5 million), health & safety briefing, full instruction, demonstration climb, supervised climbing and homemade refreshments.

We meet you at our tree climbing field which is located at a secret rural location on the Isle of Wight. We start with a full health & safety briefing and risk assessment. Once the paperwork is done, you are fitted with a comfy harness and a hard hat. After some knot tying practice, we talk you through what will happen and you are clipped into your rope which is already securely fastened to the tree.
After a demonstration & practice, it's your turn to begin your ascent; closely supervised and instructed throughout. Once you have climbed as high as you want to go, you can hang out in the canopy, maybe resting awhile in the tree hammock before abseiling to the ground through the branches. Back on the ground, the picnic blanket awaits you with homemade refreshments & a cup of tea to celebrate your achievement and replace all the energy you have burnt off. If you're still feeling adventurous, there's plenty of time for branch walking & hanging upside down...25ft above the ground!
Goodleaf Tree Climbing was set up by New Zealander Paul McCathie in 2005. Paul has been climbing trees professionally for over 10 years as a qualified arborist and has worked in New Zealand, Australia & the UK. Wanting to encourage everyone to enjoy recreational tree climbing, Paul trained as a facilitator with Genevieve Summers at Dancing With Trees, Georgia USA on the Tree Climbers International Facilitator course.

Green Gym

Opening times: Please contact for dates. Sessions start at 10am and last for 3 hours.

The Isle of Wight Green Gym is an independent community group which operates throughout the year at venues across the Island. We are one of almost 100 Green Gyms nationally. Each session starts at 10am and lasts for around 3 hours (with a tea or coffee break in the middle!) and participants are welcome to join the session midway through if you think that the whole thing is too much. People of all ages are encouraged and welcomed, please do contact us before coming however. Note. If you are a dog owner, and wish to bring your pet along, we ask that you keep the dog safely on a lead please.
The way in which we decide the venues depends on factors such as landowner's requirements and seasonal variations.  The group is always keen to hear your suggestions!  Very occasionally it is necessary to change the venue at the last minute, so please phone before Wednesday to check that it is still happening at the same location. Booking is essential at all venues, this is for reasons of health and safety (especially important in schools) to ensure we bring enough tools, and (and the most important reason) we bring along enough cups for the tea and coffee break.

Men of Wight Morris Dancing

Opening times: various locations between may and September at 8pm. October to April covers indoor practice.

Morris dancing is an old English custom. No-one knows why it started, just that it's been around for at least 600 years, and there are similar traditions in other European countries, such as Romania and Spain. It may be a pagan fertility rite, though there's no particular evidence of this. Nowadays it's mostly done because, well, we're Morris men and it would strange to be a Morris dancer without dancing the Morris. It keeps us out of the house, too, though unfortunately not off the streets.

Wayfarer Cycle Touring Club

Opening times: Sunday morning at 9am

The Wayfarers was founded in 1983 by several like minded individuals who enjoyed the gentle pursuit of cycle touring. Not for these people the hurly burly of road racing or the perilous dangers of Himalayan exploration but rather the enjoyment of a pleasant ride through fine countryside, convivial company and the delights of the 'tea stop'. The mainstay of the club is the Sunday morning club run starting at 9.00am. After meandering through the pretty and varied scenery of the Island an 11 o'clock tea-stops the order of the day during which time conversations ensue covering a wide range of topics! During the course of the year there are numerous kinds of ride such as 'easy riders' (slower paced rides),'stove rides', mainland rides, Summer Solstice ride, camping and 'off road rides'. At other times club members can be found taking week long tours of the Lake District or exploring the by-ways of France. Over the years great friendships have developed and newcomers are most welcome, whether they come along for a 'one off' try out or as regular attendees. You can contact the Wayfarers by e-mail and the club runs are printed in the County Press every Friday under sport/cycling.
