What is expected from a service provider?

Supporting People are tasked with making sure that the standards providers are giving to the people they help are as high as possible. This involves ongoing Quality Assessment and contract monitoring. Each provider must also supply the team with information on a regular basis to show how well they are performing.

Each provider needs to have the following in place:

Defined Policies and Procedures. Written policies and procedures need to be in place, and applied across the service, covering Assessment & Support planning, Health & Safety, Safeguarding etc.

Staff and Volunteers. A process should be in place for staff development and training, to should include an ongoing review of training needs and appropriate courses. All people who have direct involvement with vulnerable people need to have a CRB check carried out every three years and any disclosures need to be shown to the Supporting People team.

Risk Assessment. Measures need to be in place that help to limit the opportunity for an accident to happen which involves either clients or staff.

Safeguarding Vulnerable People. There needs to be measures in place to help limit the opportunity for clients or staff to be subjected to any form of abuse. This needs to be in line with Isle of Wight multi-agency safeguarding practices.

Equality and Diversity. The service needs to be able to show that it is fair and consistent in how it treats both its clients and staff.

Complaints/appeals. Each service provider should have a process in place to deal with any complaints or appeals its clients might need to make. This should make reference to the Isle of Wight Supporting People procedures.

The way the service and its staff work with their clients should be open and fair, holding no secrets from the client and empowering them to make choices freely. Where information is needed, the client should be able to have confidence that the service will respect their right to confidentiality.
