BARBEQUE FACILITIES AT FORT VICTORIA

The beach at Fort Victoria is a great place for a summer’s evening party, with spectacular views across the Solent and dramatic sunsets. Unauthorised barbeques are not allowed at Fort Victoria because of the damage they can cause. The Council has installed three purpose-made barbeques for family or small group use.
These popular facilities mean that everyone can enjoy a beachside barbeque without damaging the sensitive environment of the Country Park. Only charcoal may be burned – this can be obtained from the Ranger Base. On summer evenings, especially at weekends and bank holidays, a booking is strongly recommended and in this case you should consider a Party Barbeque booking.

Family Barbeques (for up to 12 people)

FortVictoria_BBQs01
Family barbeques are for up to twelve persons at any one time. There is no charge for the use of the barbeques for parties of under 12 people but the barbeques cannot be booked if you choose this option.
  • Maximum 12 people.

Party Barbeques (for 12-60 people)

Barbeques which are to include more than twelve people (up to a maximum of sixty persons) may only be authorised after a written application to the Ranger. A booked barbeque guarantees exclusive use of the number of barbeques required for your party.

Please complete the form and return it, together with the appropriate fee to: Parks and Countryside, Enterprise House, St Cross Business Park, Monks Brook, Newport, IW, PO30 5WB.

Please book at least a week in advance of the date of your proposed barbeque to avoid disappointment. Organisers of large barbeques must conform to any instructions given by the Ranger.
  • The Council regrets that no amplified music or disco-type equipment may be use on this site.
  • The Council does not accept liability for any loss or damage to property howsoever arising directly or indirectly from the barbeque; or personal injury caused thereby to any person or persons using the barbeque facilities or taking part in a barbeque function.
  • Water is available from a standpipe at the rear of the car park in the event of other facilities being closed.
  • Only charcoal may be burned. No other fires may be lit.
  • The group organiser will be responsible for the control and supervision of the barbeque.
  • No alcohol is available on the site. Organisers may bring alcohol onto the site provided that all used bottles, cans, glass, etc are cleared away safely following the barbeque.
  • Litter bins are provided and should be used. The organiser should ensure that the site is left in the same tidy condition as it was found and, if necessary, return the following day to clear up to the satisfaction of the Ranger.
  • Toilets are available in the Fort – adjoining the Ranger Base. These facilities may be opened for evening use at the discretion of the Ranger.

The standard charge for party barbeques (12-60 persons) is £11. Please make cheques payable to ‘Isle of Wight Council’.

Larger bookings of other parts of Fort Victoria, e.g. for events or corporate occasions, are possible by special arrangement, and for this service a fee is charged.

Please phone Parks and Countryside (01983) 823893 or the Ranger Base (01983) 760860 for further information about any of these services.
