CHARGES

Isle of Wight Council Building Control is required to make charges that cover the cost of providing the Building Control Service. On 1st October 2010 the Government introduced new charging regulations to give local authorities greater flexibility in establishing charges with the aim of providing fairer charges that more accurately reflect the cost of providing the service.

If you are uncertain what the correct charge for the proposed works is, please contact us via [email protected]

Which Application Type?
Building Notice Application
A Building Notice should ideally only be used for minor domestic building projects. When a Building Notice is submitted the full charge is payable on deposit and no further charge is required.

Full Plans Application
When depositing Full Plans the charge is divided into two payments. The first or “plan charge” is paid when the plans are deposited. This charge covers work carried out on checking the plans for conformity with the Regulations. The second or “inspection charge” is payable after the first inspection has been carried out (you will be invoiced separately with details of how and where to make your payment).

Regularisation Applications
A Regularisation Application may be submitted when the building owner wishes to regularise work which has been carried out over a year ago, and for which a ‘Building Notice’ or ‘Full Plans Application’ were not submitted prior to work commencing. The charge payable is based on 150% of the equivalent Building Notice charge. For assistance in calculating the appropriate charge, please contact Building Control.
