Cycle Routes

The many quiet countryside roads on the island make it very good for cycling. As well as the roads the is a considerable network of designated cycle tracks and routes as well as miles of public bridleways for those who like off road cycling.

Current established cycle routes include Cowes to Newport, Sandown to Newport, Wotton to Newport and Yarmouth to Freshwater as well as a shorter route connecting Newport to the Mountbatten Centre. More details on the cycle routes can be found on the Cyclewight web site

There is also a well sign posted 'Round the island' road route which can be easily followed by those wanting to cycle right round the Island.

Cycle Hire

There are a number of cycle hire shops on the island, so even if you don't have a bike on the island, you can still enjoy the islands various cycle tracks and routes - most of the hire shops are listed by area below.

West Wight

Wight Cycle Hire Old Works Station Road Yarmouth Tel: 761800. Open 9am–5pm 7 days per week from Easter. Free delivery and collection when you book 24hrs in advance (for more than one day). Prices from £14 (Adult) £10 (Child) per day. Tag-alongs, child seats, tandem and trailers are available.
Tag-along (children and small adults) and tri-cycle suitable for mobility impaired
Will collect and deliver bikes to the quay at Yarmouth.

Ryde

TAV Cycles 140/140a High Street Ryde Tel: 812989. Rates; ½ a Day (9-1 or 1-5) is £7, 1 Day (9 –5) is £12, 24 hours is £15, 2 Days £20, 3 Days is £28 (£6 per extra day up to one week), 1 Week £45 and 2 weeks is £69. Some children’s bikes available. Two Tag-alongs are available for hire at half the rate of the bike hire. A refundable £25 deposit per bike is required.
