ISLAND INSULATION SCHEME GOES LIVE

The Island Insulation scheme created by Isle of Wight Council and E.ON is now up and running, with an information hotline and website launched.

Home owners and those in private rented accommodation can now obtain a no obligation survey for cavity wall and loft insulation by contacting E.ON on 0800 015 2475, a free phone number, or through the Island Insulation website.

The Island Insulation scheme is funded by E.ON, one of the UK’s leading power and gas companies, and endorsed by the Isle of Wight Council. E.ON and the Isle of Wight Council will be working together to highlight the financial and environmental benefits of installing simple insulation measures, in support of the Eco Island vision.

Surveys and installation will be carried out by Mark Group. The company was appointed by E.ON to deliver the scheme and is employing local people to carry out the work during the two year scheme.

An un-insulated home can lose up to 33% of its heat through the walls and 25% through the loft. Both loft and cavity wall insulation can be applied for under the scheme, and better insulation can help reduce both CO2 emissions and energy bills.

Anyone over the age of 70 who owns their own home or rents from a private landlord is entitled to free cavity wall and loft insulation. People on certain benefits are also entitled to free insulation; residents should contact E.ON to see if they are eligible. Isle of Wight residents not eligible for free insulation will be able to apply for the discounted offer from as little as £150 for cavity wall insulation and £185 for loft insulation.

John Fawcitt, Energy Efficiency Manager at E.ON said: “We are delighted to be working with the Isle of Wight Council to offer residents free or low-cost cavity and loft insulation. There are clear benefits in installing basic energy efficiency measures, which can help people save up to £420 on the cost of heating their homes.”

Cllr Edward Giles said: “With temperatures becoming cooler as winter approaches, people will probably notice their energy bills rising. Island Insulation is a great opportunity to save money and reduce energy consumption, something the council is keen to encourage as part of the Eco-Island vision.”

Prior to undertaking any work the homeowner/landlord will receive a written quotation setting out the scope of the insulation work including any additional charges and work will only be carried out when written acceptance has been received by the installer. Other Terms and Conditions apply and will be set out in the contract with the appointed installer. E.ON reserve the right to withdraw this offer at any time. Offer end date 31 March 2011.

3. The £420 saving over a one year period is made up from installing cavity wall insulation and increasing your loft insulation from 25mm to 270mm. The cost savings shown are approximate, are provided for illustrative purposes only and are based on a gas heated semi-detached house with three bedrooms. Savings assume a gas price of 3.407p/kWh with a gas consumption of 31,700 units per annum (prior to installing the insulation measures). Individual savings may vary depending on type, age, main heating fuel of your home or if you choose to take increased warmth following installation of the measures.
