The Young Archaeologists Club
The Young Archaeologists Club (YAC) is a national organisation run by the Council for British Archaeology as its junior body. National YAC acts as an umbrella organisation for a network of local branches, and its president is Tony Robinson from Channel 4’s Time Team. The branches organise practical activities for children aged between 9 and 16 that give young people an involvement in archaeology in their local area.
The Isle of Wight branch was formed in 2001 by the County Archaeologist, Ruth Waller, but due to increasing work commitments she has handed the reigns over to Joy Verrinder. YAC events take place once a month in a variety of venues. By the end of 2002 the branch boasted numbers of over thirty children aged from 9 to 15.
