Equality & Diversity at the Isle of Wight Council

The Council is committed to diversity and equality in employment. This means celebrating the diversity of the people we employ and ensuring equality of opportunity for all, so that our employees can work in an environment where all are given the opportunity to fulfil their personal and professional potential.

We also believe that prejudice and discrimination have no place in a modern working environment, and any incidences of discriminatory attitude or behaviour will be dealt with as serious matters.

One of the ways of ensuring that we as an employer live up to the spirit of our commitment is to have a policy, which sets out our beliefs and values on diversity.

We also, as a local government employer, have a range of general and specific duties in relation to the promotion of equality of opportunity both in our workforce and in our relations with the community we serve.

The policy forms the foundation stone of the various activities we are committed to undertaking in order to achieve the various levels of the Equality Standard for Local Government; but it also sets out our commitment to best practice in equality and diversity across the organisation.
