Welcome to…

the Isle of Wight Trading Standards Service website. We visit, inspect & test a wide variety of goods & services as well as providing legal advice to businesses & consumers. We help businesses to comply with the law but take firm action against those who flout the law or act irresponsibly.

Consumers

Last year our consumer advice section dealt with more than 3200 complaints as well as a large number of general enquiries. This web site provides information and advice 24 hours a day to help consumers solve their own problems.

Businesses

The Isle of Wight Trading Standards Service can give expert advice and guidance on a wide range of Trading Standards matters. On these pages it outlines some of the services which we can provide for the Business Community.

About the Service

This section includes all of our Policies and our responsibilities, including a list of the legislation that we enforce.

Buy With Confidence

The Buy With Confidence scheme is a list of approved firms. These firms have been approved by the Isle of Wight Council's Trading Standards Service. They agree to provide reliable and quality service.

Education

Consumer Education has become more prominent following the introduction of Citizenship to the school curriculum. The work of Trading Standards is relevant to several areas of the school curriculum and we are happy to provide help and support in those areas.
