Coaching: Developing a Sustainable Model of Whole School Improvement in your School

Target Group:
Senior leaders and teachers in Primary and Secondary settings.

Course Aims:

  • To introduce school leaders to Coaching as an effective and sustainable method of school improvement.
  • To develop skills in Coaching to enable colleagues to introduce Coaching into their schools.

 

Objectives:

  • Understand Coaching and Mentoring and how to use this model to support the improvement of teaching and learning, pedagogy and practice in a school. 
  • Develop skills in coaching to enable effective coaching to take place.
  • Plan the implementation of the Coaching model in a school situation.
  • Understand and be able to provide evidence of impact.
  • The development of Coaching as a whole school improvement initiative.

Coaching has long been recognised as an effective method of improving staff performance, motivation and productivity in the commercial and industrial world.

This powerful and effective model of professional development can be used in education to build on, embed and sustain teacher’s continuous improvement.

 

 This course is delivered in three interactive face to face sessions providing opportunities for modelling and practice, questions, discussions and exploring issues related to Coaching

 

Session 1: What is Coaching, types and models. Exploring the difference between Coaching   and Mentoring, why Coaching is so effective as a sustainable method of improving pedagogy and practice across school and the GROW model.

Session 2: The Coaching Conversation-an interactive workshop exploring-the language and interpersonal skills and techniques of coaching, practising through role play and evaluating effective techniques.

Session 3: Planning-getting going with Coaching in your school, planning to implement an appropriate model, setting dates and deadlines and evaluating the impact.



Intended Impact:
To ensure that colleagues have the skills to introduce Coaching in their schools to enable an effective and sustainable model of school improvement is embedded.

Prerequisites:
Participants will need their own laptop with a DVD drive and headphones.

Lunch will be provided
