E-safety in Schools

Target Group:
School leaders, ICT subject leaders, those responsible for safeguarding, PSHE leaders, all those with an interest in safeguarding and technology. This is suitable for both primary and secondary school staff and governors.

Course Aims:

Aims:

  • To raise awareness of e-safety issues.
  • To develop strategies for safety.
  • To know what to do if the worst comes to the worst.

Outcomes:

  • To know what the risks are. Starting with online stranger danger and cyberbullying and making reference to the many other risks.
  • To know why so many seem at risk. Does online behavior match offline?
  • To know what schools can do. Three levels of activity; short term, medium term and long term and resources to go with them.
  • To consider whether the adults at school any more aware than the children and to know how to be safer.
  • To know what a digital footprint is and what yours is like.
  • To understand issues around social networking.
  • To know what makes a good policy. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) etc.
  • To know what to do if the worst comes to the worst. Where to go whether you’re a child or an adult.
  • Reference will be made to subsets of e-safety, information literacy and digital citizenship, which may be taken up by schools individually or possibly be offered as a later course.


Intended Impact:

Schools will have:

1.      Policies based on an understanding of the issues.

2.      Practice that follows from the policies.

3.      Awareness of the resources available.

4.      The very bottom line – Pupils and staff will know that in the event of something happening to them they should tell someone and know who to tell!



Prerequisites:

  • Please bring a copy of any documentation you have relating to e-safety.
  • Please bring laptops.
