Further Development of Teacher Assessment of Writing in Year Six

Target Group:
Year Six class teachers or assessment leads

Course Aims:

  • Strengthen and develop teacher confidence in making writing assessment judgements.
  • Consideration of writing opportunities for assessment.
  • Understand national requirements for year six writing assessment.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes

  • Increase professional confidence in understanding assessment criteria.
  • Develop teacher assessment through exploring writing outcomes and identify next steps in teaching and learning.
  • Explore provision of quality writing opportunities to support teacher assessment- plan next steps/term ahead.
  • Pupil involvement: self /peer assessment to support progress in learning.
  • Understand the importance of whole school involvement/development in writing assessment the importance of moderation and dialogue.


Intended Impact:
Participants feel more confident about assessment process of year six writing and have planned appropriate writing opportunities to support assessment
