Target Group:Anyone who works in school or education with children who are different.
Course Aims:
What is statutory for all pupils? How does the National Curriculum apply? What else is in place to help? What does all this mean for pupils with special needs?
How do you structure your approach? What do you need to know for effective target setting? Can you spot a good target?
How to develop a system to support a child who is different, regardless of what that difference is. A systematic approach to understanding the needs of the individual and a simple, easy system to enable you to do it. All you have to do is to observe and to record. No labels, just the truth.
After this you will know what to do. You will understand what you are trying to achieve and why it is so important to the child. You will help them take the first step on the journey they need to take to reach the rest of their life. You will know that you are right that you have made a difference
Finding the preferred learning style for a pupil with special needs can be difficult since they cannot perform the tasks required of most tests. But then, you haven't tried ours yet.
Intended Impact:Improved understanding of how to work with a child who is different.
Prerequisites:Paper and pens for the delegates.
