Because we recognise the importance of the opportunity to gain work experience especially for young people, we have committed to assist to help find and secure unpaid work experience placement requests wherever it is operationally possible to do.

Our first commitment is to the Island High Schools and through the ‘Get Ahead’ initiative we hope to assist in helping the schools place some of their students as part of their year 10 curriculum. Students securing placements through the High Schools will receive a ‘Get Ahead’ leaflet welcoming them to the Council and their supervisor will be able to access the ‘Get Ahead’ worksheets for them to review whilst they are on placement.

We will also try to assist with other requests made by graduates, higher education students or any person looking to improve their employment prospects. If you are interested in gaining a work experience placement then please email [email protected] marking the subject box ‘work experience request.’ In the email please ensure you detail your name and contact details, the kind of placement you are looking for, the length of placement you would ideally like, e.g. one week and the dates you would be available. If you have an up to date CV please attach that also.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the interest you have shown in gaining work experience with the Isle of Wight Council and hope you are successful in gaining a placement.
