The Trading Standards Service enforces legislation designed to ensure that consumers are given the necessary information to minimise energy consumption when buying certain electrical goods and property with the aim of reducing household bills and the country’s carbon footprint. We also enforce legislation designed to reduce the amount of waste and hazardous substances used in packaging.

We would also investigate any alleged false claims made about goods or services with regard to ‘green claims’.

We see our main role as responding to consumer complaints and advising businesses of their responsibilities and would welcome any information from consumers who are concerned about excess packaging, false claims or absence of energy use information.
