Planning Policy


Service Description: The main function of the Policy team is to evaluate the potential for change and produce policy based plans and strategies to guide future change, provide certainty for all those with an interest in the Island’s future, secure sustainable development and achieve regeneration. The statutory Development Plan provides the basis on which planning decisions are made.

Question: What policies should I look at if I am thinking of submitting a planning application?

Answer: You should use the relevant policies of the Island Plan Core Strategy and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). For applications that may impact on flood risk or relate to minerals you will also need to refer to the Technical Guidance to the National Planning Policy Framework
