Conservation Area, Niton Village and Niton Undercliff

The Isle of Wight Council has now made a decision on the designation of Conservation Areas in Niton Village and Niton Undercliff.
Niton and Whitwell Parish Council has received the following update from the Isle of Wight Council Planning and Regulatory Services:
“Conservation areas are designated in areas considered to be of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. Our understanding of character and special architectural or historic interest is informed by the views and opinions of the local community.
After consultation on the options for designating parts of Niton Village and Niton Undercliff as conservation areas the council is of the opinion that existing policy approaches of the IW council planning department, together with the effective scrutiny role that the Niton & Whitwell Parish Council undertakes when consulted on planning applications already safeguards the character of the area (much of which is also covered by AONB controls).
A link to the record of the decision is included here.”
