HOW THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE WILL BE USED


The Isle of Wight Council as data controller will process your personal information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.  The personal details provided by you will be held on a database and where the law allows, may be shared with other departments within the council to update details they may hold about you (i.e. housing and council tax benefit).   The Council may also be required to disclose personal information to third parties (such as the Police or Department for Work and Pensions) for the purposes of preventing or detecting crime or apprehending or prosecuting offenders.

The Isle of Wight Council is under a duty to protect the public funds it administers. The information that you provide may be shared within the Council and with other external bodies administering public funds for the purposes of the prevention and detection of fraud. Applications for discounts, reliefs, and exemptions will be verified and subject to periodic review. The Council may use third party organisations to carry out such checks using financial and credit referencing information

We are required under section 6 of the Audit Commission Act 1998 to participate in the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) data matching exercise.

Council Tax data will be provided to the Audit Commission for NFI and will be used for cross-system and cross-authority comparison with other relevant organisations' data for the prevention and detection of fraud.
