Proposed Asphalt Plant, Medina Wharf, Arctic Road, Cowes P/00472/12


The Secretary of State has responded to a request to direct whether a formal Environmental Statement (ES) is required under the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations. The response was received on 16th August and confirms the Secretary of State’s decision that an Environmental Statement is not required.

29/11/12 update – Officers have met with the agents for the planning application, and as a result, additional information has now been received together with confirmation that onsite investigations are also to be undertaken. The submitted information relates to noise and air quality issues and a strategy outlining the method for on site investigation. The methods set out in the strategy have been accepted by the Environment Agency, and contaminated land consultants acting on behalf of the Council. The applicant has informed the Council that these on-site investigations are due to commence within the first week of December 2012. The latest information is available to be viewed on the Council’s website. These documents and any results arising form the investigations, as and when submitted to the Council, maybe the subject of further public consultation before determination of the planning application.

30/10/2012 update - An application under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 has been received for the Road Stone Coating Plant (Hot Asphalt Process). The Cold Asphalt recycling mixing plant and Jaw crusher are proposed to be permitted under mobile permits. The issuing Authority for these is yet to be confirmed. The application has been placed on the public register held at: Isle of Wight Council, Environmental Health Service, Jubilee Stores, The Quay, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2EH, and can be inspected free of charge during normal office hours. It can also be viewed on the Council’s website via: www.iwight.com/ipr
