Get ready for... Walk the Wight 2009

Registrations are now open for Walk the Wight 2009, which takes place this year on Sunday 17th May. This is the largest sponsored walk in the South and takes place across the breadth of the Isle of Wight raising money for the Island's Hospice which cares for over 800 terminally ill patients every year. In 2008 over 8,400 people Walked the Wight raising over £350,000 towards patient care.

As last year, there are two walks.

  • across the hills to the Needles starting either at Bembridge or Carisbrooke
  • the Flat Walk which is 8.5 miles along cycle tracks from Sandown High School to Newport

For full details on distances, times and travel please visit the official Walk the Wight website.

There is also a special Schools Walk the Wight which encourages children to get fit and walk to and from school. As they complete each mile, they build up 'virtual' miles to complete the entire distance of Walk The Wight. Registration forms are available from your child's school.
