The Isle of Wight Race for Life is the only race on the Island to raise vital money for Cancer Research UK. The race is a 5km course, where women can walk or run at a pace that suits them whilst raising money for Cancer Research UK. 2013 will be the 13th year that this successful event will have been held on the Island.
Since Race for Life began an incredible six million participants across the UK have raised over £457 million to fund the work of over 4,000 researchers, doctors and nurses dedicated to helping more people beat cancer.
The money will go towards the funding of essential research work into the treatment and prevention of cancer, as well as providing care for those touched by cancer and their families.
This year’s Race for Life is being held on Sunday 19 May at the Medina Playing fields, Newport. The event starts at 11am, but participants are required to arrive an hour before to take part in the warm-up. The 5km course will take them around Medina Playing Fields and the surrounding Seaclose Park area in a bid to smash this year’s Isle of Wight fundraising target.
To register please visit https://www.raceforlife.org/ and select the Isle of Wight as your region. Entry costs £14.99 per person or £10 for under 16s which covers the cost of organising and running the event on the day. Under 5s can enter for free. The race is for ladies only (under 5 boys can take part).
If you are not taking part it is very much hoped that as many people as possible will come along and support the runners, walkers and joggers. Both men and women can also volunteer their services to help at the event for Cancer Research UK - by marshalling, handing out goody bags etc. Please call the volunteer hotline on 0871 641 2272 or visit http://www.raceforlife.org/support-race-for-life/volunteer.aspx to register your details now!
