“The Isle of Wight is strategically located between two designated zones for off shore wind and we are also looking to expand our renewable energy capabilities. Our Eco Island vision is grounded in the desire to combine jobs and prosperity with renewable power generation and the highest levels of ecological stewardship.

“The Isle of Wight Council manages a comprehensive inward investment service tailored specifically to the needs of companies offering renewable energy and associated activities. Key Island businesses include BAE Systems, GKN Aerospace, Vestas, Gurit and South Boats.

“The Island has plenty to offer companies in this sector. We have a skilled and dedicated workforce, we have an environment that offers opportunity to test and develop prototype technology, particularly in the field of tidal energy, and we also have a council that is actively seeking to engage with business.

“What we have done to help bring about the new Vestas research and development facility at Stag Lane and to create conditions for a nearby biomass plant as well as the work to enable GKN to expand at Whippingham should leave industry in no doubt that this council is keen to do all in its power to use the green agenda as a catalyst for economic regeneration.”
