Boundary review of the Isle of Wight Council:
Consultation on the Isle of Wight Council's Draft submission to the Boundary Committee

In early May the Isle of Wight Council will be agreeing the Council's submission to the Boundary Committee on the review of the Electoral Divisions.

The link below will take you to a copy of the Draft Submission, and we are asking all interested parties (other public organisations, Parish and Town Councils, etc) to give us their views on the submission, both positive and negative, so that we can make a submission to the Boundary Committee which generally has wide Island support.

In preparing this draft submission we have done a lot of work trying to join together the three statutory criteria of:

  • the need to reflect the identities and interests of local communities;
  • the need to secure effective and convenient local government;
  • and the need to secure equality of representation.

to a degree these three conflict at times so any all Island submission will have an element of compromise one way or another. We would like to receive as many comments as possible on the draft submission from interested parties, although as we have to work to a timetable which is influenced by a number of factors, time is not on our side. Any comments you may have should be submitted to:

Clive Joynes, Electoral Services Manager, County Hall Tel: 01983 823341 Fax: 01983 823344 E-mail: [email protected]

In order that your comments can be incorporated into any revised submission we would ask that you send these to us by Friday 13th April 2007. A summary of all comments received, both positive and negative, will be included in the Report Consultation Appendix, along with a note of any changes made to the Draft Submission. We would also welcome suggestions as to the names that could be allocated to Electoral Divisions.

You may of course submit your own proposals to the Boundary Committee, and these should be sent to:
