Mr Peter Charles Bingham
Welcome to My Website
Central Wight is one of the Island's largest electoral divisions and includes the parishes of Brighsone, Gatcombe, Rookley and Shorwell. Although this is a large area all these villages and the smaller hamlets share similar advantages - they are in one of the most beautiful parts of our Island and are close knit communities with a real sense of belonging. This was very much in evidence during the recent elections where we had a turnout of nearly 60%, the highest on the Island and a sure sign of people's interest in local affairs.
I would like to thank all those who found the time to talk to me during the election campaign; your kindness was greatly appreciated.
Shortly after the election I was asked to join the Council's Cabinet and have been given the resources portfolio. In this capacity I have responsibility for the Council's Finance & Budget, Human Resources, Property and IT - a major challenge in these difficult times.
As part of my Cabinet responsibilities I sit on the following committees and panels:
- Employment Committee
- Audit Committee (as a non voting member)
- IWC Pension Committee
- Transforming Social Care Member Review Panel
- Schools Reorganisation Member Review Panel
- Business Transformation Member Review panel (Chairman)
I would like to stress that I am here to represent everyone in the Ward so if there is any issue you would like to discuss then please get in touch.
I attend Parish Council Meetingss within the Ward as follows:
Brighstone: Second Wednesday in the month 7:30pm at Brighstone School
Gatcombe : First Monday in the month 7:00pnm at Chilllerton & Rookley School
Rookley: First Wednesday in the month at 7:30pm at Rookley Methodist Hall
Shorwell: First Tuesday in the month 7:30pm at Shorwell Parish Hall
You can also get hold of me by phone or e-mail.

Biography: | My wife Rosemary and I moved to the Island nearly sixteen years ago just as I was coming to the end of 31 years of service as an officer in the RAF. Most of my career was spent as a pilot and included time in command of a flying squadron during the Gulf War. I also served on the Defence Staff in Whitehall, as a tutor at the RAF Staff College and as a Military Attache in North Africa.
Shortly after leaving the RAF I was appointed Chairman of the Isle of Wight Health Authority and after it disbanded was selected to Chair the new Hampshire and Isle of Wight Strategic Health Authority with overall responsibility for the performance all NHS organisations in both counties - a huge but very rewarding task.
I live in Shorwell and have two adult daughters and three grandchildren, a girl of three and twin boys aged six months - my daughter and her husband are currently very busy people! When time permits I enjoy sailing and am a member of the Island Sailing Club in Cowes.
