‘Leading the way in People Management’


The focus on people and people management issues is particularly important in times of change. The impact of the modernising agenda on the working lives of Council employees should not be underestimated and HR has the challenge to add true value to the organisation by improving the capacity of the Council to deliver against its strategic objectives by pro-actively:

  • Attracting and retaining the right mix, number and calibre of employees to underpin continuous service improvement
  • Developing the appropriate competencies, skills and behaviours in our people
  • Managing all aspects of employee relations

Our aim, therefore, is to support the Council and its employing Directorates in delivering quality services. As a key support service tasked with providing the HR function, we touch every corner of the Council’s work, providing specialist advice and support services on HR matters to Elected Members, Directors, managers and employees of the Council and, most importantly, leading the development of people management policies and practices which are consistent with the Council’s overall strategic goals.
