Staff Benefits
The Isle of Wight Council recognises the importance of a motivated workforce and offers a package of staff benefits to support them in addition to the Local Government Pension scheme. The variety of benefits offered help to meet the needs of different employees with different lifestyles but all the benefits are aimed at helping to support a healthier and well balanced lifestyle.
Government based initiatives called ‘salary sacrifice’ schemes enable employees to make savings through the Payroll in Tax and National Insurance payments. We currently have one of these types of schemes available:
The Childcare Scheme allows employees to save substantial amounts of money on childcare costs. Employees who pay for Ofsted registered childcare can have payments made directly from their salary to their childcare provider, subject to a maximum amount per week/month. The scheme can be joined anytime of the year and covers children up to the age of 15 (16 if disabled). Savings are dependant on personal circumstances but can be as much as £880 a year.
Other benefits fall into the category of health and wellbeing:
The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is an impartial and completely confidential advice and counselling support service which is available 24/7 via a free phone number. Employees also have access to a website called ‘PPC Online’ where they can seek information and advice on a wide range of topics to do with work-life, personal support and health and well-being.
Benenden Healthcare Society is a low cost healthcare scheme for public sector employees. On joining employees get access to a range of information and advisory services and discounts on valuable health and well-being services. After six months financial support is available towards diagnosis, tests, minor outpatient treatment and physiotherapy costs, together with medical treatment and surgery at selected regional centres.
Other financial benefits include:
Our list of Local Retailer Discounts contains over 70 Island businesses that are prepared to offer discounts on their products and services.
Website Discounts are available through several sites designed specifically for those who work in the Public Sector. They are free to access and enable employees to take advantage of special offers and discounts on a whole range of products and services.
