Council Tax Benefit Consultation

Your FAQ

Question: What is Council Tax?

Answer: Council tax is a local tax on homes (domestic properties) which helps to pay for local services, such as education, social services and refuse and recycling collections, as well as contributing towards the police and fire service. The amount you have to pay depends on the property band your home is in, which reflects the value of your property as at 1 April 1991. Your local council is responsible for collecting council tax.
