Services for Adults on the Isle of Wight

Countryside

Service Description: The Countryside Section of the Isle of Wight Council is involved in a wide range of activities from giving advice about wildlife and trees to carrying out practical management and teaching children about nature. The Countryside Ranger manages nature reserves and country parks throughout the Island, including Fort Victoria Country Park. The Ranger works closely with community organisations and charities, especially town and parish councils, to promote good countryside and wildlife management on land they own. The work of the section is supported by a large and loyal band of volunteers, who willingly give their time throughout the year to conserve and enhance their local environment.

Your FAQ

Question: How can I book a barbeque or event at Fort Victoria?

Answer: The Council has installed three purpose-made barbeques for family or small group use at Fort Victoria. Although groups of 12 people or fewer may turn up and use the barbeques without booking if they are free, at peak times they are in great demand and so to reserve a place booking in advance is strongly recommended. For a group of between 11 and 60 people there is an insurance fee of £11.00 and a form that needs to be completed. The Countryside website provides more information about the conditions of use, the charges involved and a booking form to download if required.

If on-site catering is required, enquiries can be made of Verdi's Cafe on 01983 761777. No other caterer is permitted to use the site without prior consent of the Council.

The Park and facilities can be hired for private events - for all enquiries please contact the Countryside Section. - Related Link
