Service Description: The Highways Design Section forms part of the Highways and Transport Department based at Enterprise House, which in turn lies within the Directorate of Environment and Neighbourhoods. The Design Section is currently responsible for the design and implementation of highway schemes from the Local Transport Plan (LTP)

Answer: There are four main sections within Highways and Transport who undertake Civil Engineering works. 1) Maintenance – This section looks after the existing highway network 2) Traffic – This section deals with accident remedial measures, signing and road markings, proposed footways etc. 3) Structures - This section deals with highway bridges, retaining walls and culverts 3) Design – This section deals with the larger proposed schemes and are the internal consultants to Engineering Services and therefore undertake works for all sections. However our main Client for the majority of our schemes is the Traffic Section.
