The New Inn at Steeple | | This remarkable collection came from Longleat House in Wiltshire; seat of the Marquesses of Bath, where it was rediscovered in the library in 2 bound volumes during efforts to identify items to be sold to help maintain Longleat’s many treasures. |
This view shows what is now the main landing place at Cowes at low water. The Vine Inn (centre) was considered the principal inn in the town at this date and it had the best slipway. Pencil, pen and grey ink and watercolour. 1790’s | | The Vine Inn at Cowes |
Portsmouth Point with Gosport in the distance | | 17 watercolours are now available as limited edition reproductions and it is hoped that more of this collection may be released by the Isle of Wight Council for similar reproductions. The limited edition of each image has been restricted to only 350 copies worldwide - very small by international standards but designed to preserve a certain exclusivity. |
Recent AcquisitionsEach year many new items are added to the museum collection as donations, bequests and purchases. This small exhibition displayed some of the artefacts that had recently come into the collection. | Pen and Ink Drawing - The south door of Wootton Church and Northwood Church. |
