HMS Cavalier was the very last wartime destroyer to be commissioned.

When launched she was the fastest ship in the fleet. She served in the Arctic and the Western Approaches#, before joining the British Pacific Fleet as the war came to a close.

HMS Cavalier was refitted and modernized in 1957. She continued to play an active role as part of The Royal Navy's Far East and Home fleets until she was decommissioned* in 1972.
# Western Approaches - an area of the Atlantic off the Western Coast of Britain.
* Decommissioned - to withdraw a ship from active service.

HMS Cavalier is now preserved for the benefit of future generations, as a memorial to all those brave men who served and died on board the destroyers.
She can be visited at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent.
