Public Conveniences

PublicConveniences-Update12072700
The Isle of Wight Council provides 41 public conveniences across the Island, and cleans 10 more on behalf of town and parish councils. The cleansing and minor maintenance of these facilities is managed by the Waste team.
A list of locations of public conveniences and detailing the facilities at each site is contained on the following link:

Standards

The cleansing and minor maintenance of public conveniences is carried out by TopMops Ltd under contract to the Isle of Wight Council. The service includes routine cleansing, replenishing items such as toilet rolls and undertaking minor repairs such as replacing door locks. The number of cleansing visits per day depends on the time of year but ranges from once to four times daily. Additional cleansing is carried out at specific toilets during various special events.

Some facilities are closed during the winter period, when there are fewer visitors to the Island. These facilities will be opened for the summer season on the Monday before Good Friday and close for the winter on 1 October. Other facilities are locked over night where they have been regularly targeted by vandals. In such cases, the facilities are unlocked at around 8am and locked at Dusk.

To ensure that there is a high standard of cleansing and as part of our quality assurance procedures the public conveniences are regularly and randomly inspected by our Environment Officers.
Occasionally you may find facilities which you expect to be open, to be locked with a red padlock. These facilities are awaiting repair and are locked for Health and Safety reasons. The facilities will be re-opened when the repairs are completed and it is safe to do so.
