Disposal of abandoned vehicles


Local authorities have the power to dispose of abandoned vehicles that they have removed and are in their custody in “such a manner as they think fit” (this may include sale of a vehicle at auction) In the case of a vehicle that in the opinion of the authorised officer is in such a condition that it ought to be destroyed, at any time after its removal.

In satisfying the local authority of ownership, the owner of a vehicle can remove the vehicle from custody after paying sums relating to removal and storage owed to the authority. These are currently:

Removal £105
Storage £ 12 per day
