Scrutiny Panels

The Council has established three Scrutiny Panels. These are:
  • Scrutiny Panel for Health & Community Wellbeing
  • Scrutiny Panel for Children & Young People
  • Scrutiny Panel for Economy & Environment

The purpose of the Scrutiny Panels is to drive the development and review of key areas of policy which have been identified by either the Cabinet or the Panels themselves.

The Scrutiny Panels will deliver work programmes which reflect the priorities of the administration, corporate strategic objectives and the priorities of the Panel Members and the communities they serve.

All Scrutiny Panels will deliver evidence based policy recommendations which can be adopted by the Cabinet or Full Council. These recommendations will also be outcome focussed, strategically coherent, clearly stated, and will have identified the resources necessary to deliver them.

The Scrutiny Panels will have, usually bi- monthly, public meetings. At these meetings the Panel Members will hear evidence about one of their lines of enquiry from invited stakeholder representatives. At these meetings they will also consider requests for possible new enquiries into key areas of policy.

For more information about the constitutional role of Scrutiny Panels at the Isle of Wight Council please refer to Article 5 in the Isle of Wight Council’s Constitution.
