In order to connect with one of the three ferry operators to the Island, you will need to select one of the following mainland stations as your destination:

  • Portsmouth Harbour
  • Southampton Central
  • Lymington Pier

Arriving at Portsmouth Harbour

At Portsmouth Harbour you can catch the Wightlink Fast Cat hi-speed catamaran passenger service to Ryde. The ferry terminal is conveniently situated under-cover at the far end of Portsmouth Harbour Station itself and the crossing to Ryde takes approximately 18 minutes. The catamaran docks at Ryde Pier head to the East of the Island where you can board the Island Line train service to take you down the pier and into the town, where there is a bus station, taxi rank and transport links across the Island.

The Wightlink Car Ferry which docks in Fishbourne and the Hovercraft Service to Ryde Esplanade are both located a short distance away from Portsmouth Harbour railway station. There is a taxi rank and bus station situated directly outside the station entrance should you wish to travel to the Island via these methods.

Arriving at Southampton Central

The Red Funnel Hi-Speed Red Jet service is situated at Town Quay, Southampton which is a short 10 minute journey away from Southampton Central railway station. Outside the station, a free CityLink bus service runs every 15 minutes connecting passengers to the Red Jet Hi-Speed service and also the City Centre and WestQuay shopping centre. Taxis are also available from outside the station entrance. The Red Jet service takes approximately 23 minutes to cross the Solent and docks in West Cowes, to the North of the Island.

Foot passengers may also board the Red Funnel car ferry service which is again located at Town Quay in Southampton. This service takes 55 minutes and docks in East Cowes, adjacent to West Cowes to the North of the Island. West Cowes and East Cowes are connected by the Cowes Chain Ferry (floating bridge).

Arriving at Lymington Pier

Foot passengers can board the Wightlink car ferry service by catching the train to Lymington Pier. The station is located just inside the ferry terminal car park. The crossing takes approximately 30 minutes and the ferry docks at Yarmouth, to the West of the Island.
