Public Awareness Meetings for Proposed New Schools

Schools ReorganisationMembers of the public are invited to a series of meetings in July where they'll be able to question those behind bids to run the proposed seven new schools.

In February 2009, Isle of Wight Council published seven notices announcing competitions for bids to set up one or more of the new schools. These new schools form part of the Isle of Wight's move towards a two-tier education system.

The period to respond to the competition closed on 20 June and the process to decide which proposer is chosen to establish each school now begins. For each competition, this process starts with a public awareness meeting, at which the potential bidders will set out their vision and answer any questions from residents.

The statutory notices for the proposed school changes can be viewed here.

The proposed new schools, and the venue of the meetings, are as follows. Each meeting begins at 1730 for a 1800 start and each will close at 2030.

13 July - Cowes Secondary School - (Cowes High School)

14 July - Newport (Carisbrooke) Secondary School - (Carisbrooke High School)

15 July - Newport (Fairlee) Secondary School - (Medina Leisure Centre)

16 July - Sandown Secondary School - (Sandown High School, South Hall)

17 July - Ryde Secondary School - (Ryde High School)

20 July - Rural Amalgamation Primary School - (Medina Theatre)

21 July - East Cowes/Whippingham Amalgamation Primary School - (Medina Theatre)

The meetings will be chaired and facilitated by the Office for Public Management.
