Dog Friendly Areas

There are a vast majority of beaches that are open to dog owners on the Isle of Wight, only the main resort beaches are restricted to dogs from the 1st May to the 30th September.

To the south of the Island there is a large expanse of coastline open to dogs which can be accessed at Brook Chine where you can park your car, or by various footpaths, there is one section at Compton Beach/Hanover Point that has a dog restriction placed on it by the National Trust they can be contacted on 01983 741020.


Other beaches open to dogs include:

  • Colwell (right of Slipway)

  • Fort Victoria (Yarmouth) includes various attractions

  • Gurnard (Marsh Road)

  • Cowes (parts of, depending on the tide)

  • East Cowes (as above)

  • Ryde East – right of pier (beyond a distance of 100 meters from the seawall)

  • Ryde West – left of pier

  • Puckpool (Appley Tower to Springvale Rd)

  • Seaveiw Bay

  • Seagrove

  • St Helens

  • Bembridge

  • Whitecliff Bay

  • Yaverland (left of the slipway)

  • Sandown (parts of)

  • Shanklin (parts of)

  • Bonchurch

  • Steephill Cove (some restrictions as privately owned)

  • Castle Cove (St Catherine’s Point area)
