Cycle Training

Think! Road Safety website

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service Road Safety Team is committed to improving safety for cyclists and delivers the National Standard of cycling training which is based upon the standard at which Bikeability is based. This cycle training is dubbed the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century.

The Road Safety Team are now registered providers of Bikeability Training and have been successful in securing funding to deliver cycle training to year 6+ pupils throughout the Islands schools.  This funding is for the period 2012-2015.

The training is free and delivered by fully qualified instructors.  It is a 10 hour "on-road" course delivered over 4-5 days. The training can be offered during the school day, after school or during holidays.  The sessions can be daily (i.e. Monday - Friday) or weekly (i.e. every Monday for 5 weeks).

In addition to the cycle training, the Road Safety Team carries out publicity and awareness campaigns to promote safe cycling, the benefits and importance of wearing a helmet, high visibility clothing and the need to use bike lights.
