About

In 2011 the Isle of Wight Local Authority moved to a 2-tier system of schools. From September 2011 the Isle of Wight has 49 community, controlled and aided schools which are made up as follows:

  • 41 primary schools (for pupils aged 4 to 11);
  • 6 secondary schools (for pupils aged 11 to 19);
  • 2 mixed-sex special schools (for pupils aged 4 to 11 and 11 upwards).

Schools are grouped in local 'cluster's which enables them to work closely together for the benefit of all children.
