Energy Initiatives

About

The Isle of Wight Council has successfully bid for almost £450,000 of funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change to help households on the Island to reduce their fuel costs.

The council has allocated the money to three Island voluntary sector organisations to deliver energy saving projects.

The Footprint Trust - to provide improvements to households in fuel poverty including access to benefits or grants and free home insulation schemes. For more information please click on the 'Warmer Wight' tab above.

The Eco Island Partnership - for a range of activities to promote the Green Deal – a Government initiative which aims to help businesses, landlords, tenants and homeowners to make their property more energy efficient without the upfront costs. Plus, the scheme uses the local workforce helping to create jobs in the property improvement sector. For more information click on the 'Green Deal' tab above.

Community Action Isle of Wight - to deliver a collective switching scheme which encourages large numbers of people to get a better deal by switching energy suppliers and reducing their energy bills. To find out more about how you can save money on your energy bills click on the 'Big Wight Switch' tab above.

We’re hoping, by securing funding for these projects, to make a real difference to Island households struggling to cope with rising fuel costs by helping people save energy and save money. We’re also aiming through these projects to help the most vulnerable to heat their homes affordably and to reduce carbon emissions.
