Transport Policy

Home to Education Transport Policy

Introduction
This document explains in detail the policies and arrangements for free and subsidised transport for pupils and students who attend the following types of education institutions and training providers based on the Isle of Wight which are funded by the taxpayer (NB: this policy applies to students resident on the island, for those students living on the mainland and wishing to attend education on the Island, appropriate costs will be covered by their home authority).

Primary schools (4 - 11 age range)
community, voluntary controlled, voluntary aided and foundation schools;

Secondary schools (11 - 16 age range)
community, voluntary aided, trust and academy schools, some of which are called colleges;

Post-16 institutions and providers (16 - 19 age range)
Sixth forms within the secondary school types listed above, and the IW College and training providers.

Special schools and units
Maintained special schools, pupil referral units and school based units.

This document covers all aspects of education transport, ranging from home to education transport to special arrangements which may apply to small groups of pupils or students only. For the first time, it includes post-16 arrangements. This version reflects the completion of the move to a primary / secondary model of education, which was completed in September 2011.
