Service Description: Collection of domestic waste and recycling from properties.
Also known as:- Bins, Dog Bin Requests, Domestic Waste Collection, Dustbins, Fridge & Freezer Disposal, Island Waste Services, Refuse Collection, Rubbish, Waste Disposal, Waste Management
Answer: The Council doesn’t have its own fleet of vehicles for refuse collection, we rely on a contractor. However, the Council can arrange a bulky collection on your behalf but you would be charged for the collection as well as an additional admin fee. As we can only use one contractor, it is cheaper for members of the public to contact a private waste contractor directly. Private waste contractors advertise in the local papers and in the yellow pages. You might like to donate your item to a local charity such as the Storeroom project, part of the Real World Trust (www.realworldtrust.org) who may collect it from you. You may also take bulky items to the household waste recycling centres where there is no charge for disposal. Fridges are an exception to this because the Council has taken steps to intervene and limit the costs incurred by members of the public as these items are now very expensive to dispose of. - Related Link
