Educating at Home

Service Description: Occasionally, parents prefer to arrange their child’s education ‘otherwise’ than in a school, usually providing this education at home. Parents who educate their children at home may do so for a number of reasons, possibly based on firm convictions about education. The Local Authority may make enquiries in order to establish that a suitable education is being provided.

Your FAQ

Question: What happens if there is a concern that a child may be missing education?

Answer: The Elective Home Education Officer will discuss options with the family and a reasonable time will be given for changes to be made. If necessary, the Education Welfare Service will be involved and may start the School Attendance Order process.
