Answer: The property must be in need of or undergoing major structural repair in order to render it habitable to qualify for this exemption. Any exemption is awarded to the property, irrespective of who the owner is. The exemption is for a maximum period of twelve months. Further exemption period can not be granted unless the property has been occupied as someones main residence for a period in excess of 6 weeks.
