If you are an employer, you should make sure you and your staff know what to do to prevent a fire in the workplace and how to escape if a fire does break out. If you're concerned about a fire risk which may be a danger to life (for instance a company or organisation disregarding safety practices) you should contact the Fire Safety Enforcement Team.

Answer: The Fire Safety Order applies to all premises including those occupied by the self-employed. You will need to carry out a fire risk assessment and have an emergency plan appropriate for the premises you occupy. The findings of the risk assessment must be recorded where: 1) A licence under an enactment is in force 2) An Alterations Notice under the Fire Safety Order requires it 3) You are an employer and have five or more employees
