Food Business - Food Safety Regulations


Service Description: There are many regulations that control the receipt, handling, processing, storage and distribution of foods to ensure that it is wholesome and fit. The regulations and Food Safety Act 1990 also apply to drink. It is qualified environmental health staff who ensure that food businesses comply with these regulations.

Question: What temperature should you store food at?

Answer: Products that require temperature control to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria, for example dairy products, must be kept at or below 8°c, subject to certain tolerance periods and a general requirement to maintain food at a safe temperature.
It is good practice to set refrigerators to operate at a temperature between 1 and 5°c. Devices can be bought from local hardware stores that allow you to monitor the operating temperature. However, be aware that cheap devices are not particularly accurate.
