Educating at Home

Service Description: Occasionally, parents prefer to arrange their child’s education ‘otherwise’ than in a school, usually providing this education at home. Parents who educate their children at home may do so for a number of reasons, possibly based on firm convictions about education. The Local Authority may make enquiries in order to establish that a suitable education is being provided.

Your FAQ

Question: Will the Local Authority check that my child is being educated?

Answer: The EHE Officer will offer a visit at the start of home education and another some months later when questions or difficulties can be discussed. If all is going well she will then write once a year to arrange a convenient visit or ask for a report.
If more support is requested or there are concerns then visits can be more frequent.
