Waste Strategy and Contract Procurement

Service Description: The current household waste contract comes to an end in 2015 providing us with an opportunity to explore new ways of managing the Island’s waste. We are in the process of developing a new waste strategy for how our waste should be dealt with in the future that may include utilising new technologies. As well as increasing recycling, we will be looking at ways to treat waste as a resource from which we can generate heat and power for the Island.

Your FAQ

Question: How does the new collection scheme fit into the waste strategy?

Answer: The new collection scheme being introduced in 2012 is part of the current contract with Island Waste Services. It will run through to the end of the contract and will be evaluated as part of the waste strategy and considered against other schemes as part of evaluation of tenders.
Wheelie bins, food caddies and vehicles purchased for the new collections will continue to be used.
